    Ex Stabilimento Florio

You are now at the 'Ex Stabilimento Florio'. It was once a tuna fishery, one of the largest in the Mediterranean. In 1878, it was renovated and expanded by the Florio family, who acquired the islands and the fishing rights.
Consequently, the family also added a factory for storing and canning the tuna. Their method of preserving tuna in oil was the first of its kind.

    Castle of Santa Caterina

The next stop is Santa Caterina Castle, perched atop a cliff at a height of 300 metres.
It's one of the most picturesque spots in Favignana, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including Trapani and Marsala.
The castle likely originated as an ancient military tower in the 11th century, designed to protect the island. It was significantly fortified in the 15th century under the rule of Andrea Rizzo.
Unfortunately, the castle is now in a state of abandonment after various changes in fortune, yet it remains a stunning location to visit.
To reach the top, there is a drivable path halfway up, after which you will find the Scalinata Santa Caterina. This staircase leads to the summit, a walk of about 30 minutes.

    Cala Rossa Beach

    Finally, you've reached paradise!
Cala Rossa, listed among the most beautiful beaches of Favignana, is a rocky bay nestled between tuff quarries and caper plants, renowned for its turquoise waters lapping against the rocks.
There's also a legend associated with its name, suggesting it was named Red Cove due to a bloody battle between the Romans and Carthaginians, where many lives were lost, and their blood turned the sea red.

    Bue Marino Beach

Continuing along the coast from Red Cove beach, a few kilometres ahead, you will find Bue Marino Beach. Its name translates to 'Maritime Ox', a reference to the monk seals that once populated this bay.
Like the previous one, this bay consists of tuff quarries that, over two centuries ago, were bustling with miners. After extracting the tuff, they moved the blocks to the beach's shore, where stone slides helped transport the tuff blocks to local sailboats, known as 'schifazzi', which were then ready to export the material to Palermo, Trapani, and even Tunis.

    Cala Azzurra Beach

There it is, Cala Azzurra, or Blue Cove, one of the island's finest golden sandy beaches.
Here, the sea is calm throughout the year, shielded from the wind, and the seabed gradually deepens as you move away from the shore.
There is also a bar at the start of the path leading to the beach.

After exploring the most beautiful beaches of Favignana, it might be time to relax and enjoy some local specialities.
Your next stop is 'Cibo Chiacchiere e Vino', the perfect spot for dinner or a happy hour at sunset.
Located on the north-western promontory of the coast, near Cala del Pozzo, this venue offers traditional Sicilian cuisine and wines, featuring local organic products and craft beers.
Please note that this restaurant may have seasonal opening times, so it's advisable to check them in advance. If you find it closed, you can head to Favignana town and dine at one of the local cafés.
